Richard M. Green, 52, of New Brunswick was charged with five counts of criminal mischief after police said he smashed window after window among nearly half a dozen Jewish stores along Raritan Avenue on Wednesday morning.
Am I the only person who is completely unphased by Angela Darmody’s death? I know a lot of people are up in arms about the trope of ‘bury your gays’ and all, but really? Her sexuality had nothing to do with her death, and she was given two seasons of screen time to whine. She irritated the hell out of me. My husband loves me and takes care of me even though I told him I don’t love him and I run around on him but still I’m not happy. Boohoo. I was incredibly sick of her petulant attitude. She was allowed to indulge herself in every way possible except that Jimmy wouldn’t give her details on his criminal organization. Margaret has a child with polio and Jimmy’s mother was raped from the age of thirteen and Jimmy has PTSD and was likely sexually abused as a child as a result his mothers emotional damage. YOU DON’T KNOW WHAT REAL PROBLEMS ARE ANGELA.
Jimmy was a controlling, jealous, manipulative, abusive asshole who forced himself on her once when she wasn’t reciprocating. And he also cheated on her in Chicago which you failed to mention.
She wasn’t “allowed to indulge herself” at all. There were so many things she wanted to do, like going to Paris, that she didn’t get to do.
Maybe the final scene itself didn’t have anything to do with her sexuality, but uh - you can’t ignore that she was one of the only non-straight characters on the show and was never allowed to be happy. Also two seasons of screen time? Are you serious? She was barely ever on the show.
How did she not know what real problems are, what? Did you ever actually watch the show or just drool over Jimmy Darmody?
I think what’s interesting about her, as opposed to other women in the show is that she’s the only woman that isn’t looking to gain power through the man she’s with, she’s looking for her version of power just through herself. It would’ve been nice to see what that would’ve been. She was the one that had the potential of being a really modern woman.
I’m kinda laughing at myself for being so upset over a tv show but I really loved this character and found her to be one of the most sympathetic people on the show
And now she’s dead and I have to hate Manny Horvitz, plus blah blah stories about men ~avenging~ brutally murdered women (when this show has gotten a lot better in general at portraying very different women in more three-dimensional ways), also the whole tragically dead gay/bi women trope
Also I know a lot of annoying Jimmy Darmody fans will be happy about this because they thought Angela was so mean omg! for daring to cut her own hair short after her total asshole husband talked about how he liked it long
Oh god I have so many thoughts and feelings about tv
“I don’t like this expression “First World problems.” It is false and it is condescending. Yes, Nigerians struggle with floods or infant mortality. But these same Nigerians also deal with mundane and seemingly luxurious hassles. Connectivity issues on your BlackBerry, cost of car repair, how to sync your iPad, what brand of noodles to buy: Third World problems. All the silly stuff of life doesn’t disappear just because you’re black and live in a poorer country. People in the richer nations need a more robust sense of the lives being lived in the darker nations. Here’s a First World problem: the inability to see that others are as fully complex and as keen on technology and pleasure as you are.”—
“I try not to read too much into it, but there’s a bit of a bias, where you’re thought of as a mystical creature, which is a bit absurd. I have a great sense of humor — and a dark sense of humor — about everything, but it is a bit narrow-minded sometimes, where if they have a dwarf character, the shoes have to curl up at the end, he has this inherent wisdom, he isn’t sexual, all of that. You look at something like Snow White, and each of the dwarves is just one thing — this one sneezes, this one is angry, this one is tired. And that’s sometimes still true for modern-day stories. But it’s not just for dwarves, that could be the case for anybody, for women, for people of color. Right now it’s Middle Eastern people who are all playing terrorists. It’s short-sighted. But life is too short — no pun intended — to be interested in roles that haven’t got any meat to them.”—Peter Dinklage on how fantasy depicts dwarves (via obsessionfull)
