Being rude or critical about body odor, people who don’t shower, etc,

Is body-shaming and can be ableist.

Some people can’t shower because depression and/or avolition keeps them from being able to will themselves into the shower. Some autistic people can’t shower because of painful texture issues. Some people have phobias or triggers that make it hard to shower. There are myriad disability issues that I don’t even know about (but I should) that could make bathing difficult.

There are also people who DO shower regularly but can’t manage to be odorless. People with hormonal issues, for one, thyroid problems, PCOS.

There are people who are made to feel ashamed and like their bodies are inherently more unclean and unacceptable than other people’s bodies no matter what their hygiene practices are.

There are people who quite simply don’t have access to regular showers to begin with. (Homeless people, people who live in areas with tainted water, etc.)

So please keep that in mind.
