It has often been reported that whales have regional dialects or accents. This is completely unfounded and the misinformation can be traced back to the Channel 5 series “When Killer Whales Attack”. The “scientific” research this conclusion was based upon later turned out to be interference cased by the research vessels first mate using the wifi on his laptop. Even though he was explicitly told not to use wifi during research jaunts he ignored the warnings, and we, the scientific community, suffered the embarrassment.
